Waiting..waiting…more waiting.
I feel all jumpy inside. My mind asking “when when when?” More waiting…
Then that riff. Ooooo that riff. “Tip Your Bartender.” The crowd becomes silence for a mili-second and parts to make room for a pit. YES. Every molecule exploding with excitement. You know all the words and you’re shouting at the top of your lungs. You’re amongst people that GET IT. You are amongst brethren. It’s just beautiful to watch the crowd mosh in sync to Daryl’s words.
I remember why I fell in love with this genre.
The collective chaos moving in rhythm.
This whole time..everything comes to me. Rushes to me. Every moment that I have associated with Glassjaw. Friendships, heartbreaks, shower concerts, make out sessions and more…I felt the ghost of the mousy angst ridden girl I once was and laugh. I can look back on those memories and just laugh.
I remember there was a while I couldn’t listen to any Glassjaw. It was too painful. Too many memories….. Crazy isn’t it? The way a set of words with a melody can create such images. The way their skin smells. The way they laugh when something is really funny. The promise of best friends forever. The first time you cut class. I love that. Please..please…I am not looking back with nostalgia no no. Just in…amazement?…I can’t think of a better word…

Nothing ever leaves you. No seriously..nothing and no one ever leaves. We are all energy. Energy cannot be destroyed, only transformed into a different medium. That’s why sometimes when you meet someone ‘new’ you go “you remind me of someone…” There is no point to nostalgia….ok ok I won’t get into theoretical physics…

Mother Fucking Glassjaw! They were pioneers of Post-Hardcore. Along side Thursday and Poison the Well, they followed in the footsteps of Fugazi and changed the Hardcore scene bringing meaning too their music, lyrics, and expressing what they felt.
